University of Tartu open access courses attract participants from over 70 countriesEver since the University of Tartu started offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in 2014, Estonian higher education has reached learners in more than 70 countries worldwide. The MOOC “Estimation of Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis” that started last week has 450 participants from 70 countries, the most exotic of which might be Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Jordan, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The course, led by Professor of Chemistry Ivo Leito, is in English and takes place for the second time. When it ran for the first time in 2014, it draw 270 participants from 40 countries. |

International students satisfied with quality of education in EstoniaThe International Student Barometer (IBS) has found that 89 percent of international students at Estonian universities are satisfied with the quality of education on offer, but find career guidance lacking. IBS is the global benchmark study for the international student experience, in which Estonia took part for the third time. In the academic year 2014-2015, 2,887 foreign students, plus 1,000 exchange students, were enrolled in Estonian universities. The sample of the survey was 1,035 international students in Estonia. |

MEKTORY INNOVATION CENTER IS NOW OPENTallinn University of Technology opened its innovation and entrepreurship center Mektory last week. The center has already been operating for more than a year, with over 15 product development projects under its belt as well as its first contracts with major companies. Mektory’s now-completed 4,450-square-meter building houses a number of labs ranging from mobile services to welding, as well as a demo center, an youth exhibition center, and workshops dedicated to China, Japan, Australia and the US. |
