The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Estonian.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
All academic documents (diploma, transcript) need to be certified by a public notary or issuing university. If the document is not in English or Estonian it also needs to be officially translated.
It is required that you send verified copies of the entry qualification documents directly to the university by postal mail, according to the instructions given by the institution. Important! Never send original documents by post!

Your research proposal (appr. 2500 words without bibliography) should include at least the following: topic of your intended research, introductory overview of your research project, overview of the present state of the research done on the topic in the world, research objectives and approach (methodology), what research you have done already on this topic (if relevant) and what are the expected preliminary results of your thesis, why is it reasonable to carry out this project in Estonia, references/preliminary bibliography. If your intended research includes fieldwork, please describe the scope and duration of it, add a provisional budget and indicate the possible sources for financing.

The study programme is aimed at all people with a master’s degree in a related field who wish to pursue PhD level studies in history, art history, and archaeology.
In History, we welcome projects in all fields related to the past of the Baltic States, Russia and Europe in general, but also topics related to Baltic-German (Cultural) History and Environmental History/Studies. In Art History, we welcome first of all people who are interested in pre-modern art and interdisciplinary studies in Visual Culture. In Archeology, we welcome projects relating to the prehistory of Estonia and its neighbours, especially in the late Iron Age, but also topics in the field of urban archeology.
