Programme structure
Learning outcomes of program
Upon completing the program and defending the doctoral degree, the student will be able to:
1. Plan and realize creative work of high artistic standard and originality, as well as independently and critically analyze actual and relevant issues related to the field of specialization.
2. Instruct and supervise higher school students both in creative work and in research.
3. Display wide and systematic knowledge of music in general and relevant knowledge about the specialized field in question.
4. Understand the supportive role of research for creative artistic work, and reflect the possibilities and methods of research, as well as develop and adjust them for the given purpose.
5. Act independently in an international study or work environment and participate in creative projects that call for leadership and team skills, innovative thinking and capability to make strategically important decisions.
6. Perceive the impact of one’s creative work for society, analyze social norms and relations and respond to them, as well as take action for change if necessary.
7. Present issues related to music or theatre in general, one’s field of specialization, and given project, in both written and verbal form, to both an audience of specialists and wider public, and participate in various kinds of discussions, in both native language and a foreign language important for the given field of specialization.
8. Develop international co-operation and compose music or perform, respectively, to an international audience.
9. Detect and address various shortcomings in one’s knowledge and skills, and engage in self-training.
The content of study program
The curriculum consists of two components: doctoral project and doctoral courses. Doctoral project in itself consists of two components: doctoral recitals (performance or composition, respectively) and doctoral thesis.
The following modules have to be completed:
A Courses in the area of specialization, 20 credit points
B Elective courses, 20 credit points
C College pedagogy, 6 credit points
D Artistic research doctoral project (as described), 180 credit points
E Freely chosen courses, 14 credit points
