Overview
The vocal chamber music and accompaniment curriculum at EAMT is specifically designed to train accompanists for vocal and instrumental soloists and repetiteurs. This curriculum also encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students from various departments to engage in a more comprehensive learning experience. Master’s level piano students are invited to join a specialised accompaniment class to advance their skills.
The curriculum incorporates modern academic methods, equipping students with practical skills and valuable teamwork experience. This includes collaborative projects with vocal and instrumental soloists, conductors, and our Opera Studio, with a significant emphasis on developing singer/accompanist partnerships. The synergy between pianists and singers is showcased in annual singer/pianist duo competitions and public concerts. In partnership with the Concert and Performance Office, we have introduced several new concert series. “Poetry in Music” is one such series that brings together students from the piano, singing, and dramatic art departments.
Another innovative series, “Salong”, offers a unique mix of musical performances and conversational interludes, reviving the traditional salon atmosphere. Furthermore, students participate actively in the “Student Tuesday” concert series. To enrich the daily academic life, we organise master classes, specialist internships, workshops, colloquia and academic concerts.
In 2022, EAMT, in collaboration with the Estonian National Opera, launched a new course that provides students with the skills and experience necessary to participate in professional operatic productions.
The curriculum also promotes relationships with corresponding departments at other European universities and with graduates of the Accompaniment major who are working in Estonia and abroad. In their supervision of students, the department’s teachers take into account each student’s individuality, interests and initiative in choosing their own direction for development.
