Postgraduate diploma (or higher)

• A Junior Research Fellow is a student and an employee of the university at the same time. The exact workload and nominal study time depends on Individual Study and Research Plan and can be from 4 to 6 years. The minimum salary by the workload 1,0 is 1900 euros per month (in the academic year 2023/2024).

• A Doctoral Student has a status of a student. The nominal study time depends from Individual Study and Research Plan and can be from 4 to 6 years. A Doctoral Student is not entitled to receive a Doctoral Allowance nor the TLU Doctoral scholarship. Please note that a Doctoral Student has no Health Insurance.

• A Knowledge Transfer Doctoral Fellow works in an external institution or in an enterprise where he/she performs duties related to the doctoral studies under an employment contract with a load of at least 0.5. The knowledge transfer doctoral fellow has at least two supervisors, one of whom is from the company or institution where the research is carried out. In addition to research work at the knowledge transfer partner, the knowledge transfer doctoral fellow must also participate in university teaching activities.

Doctoral level (PhD) applicants must have a Master’s degree or corresponding qualifications and experience.

At least 60% of the possible maximum results from your Bachelor’s as well as Master’s studies is expected in order to qualify for studies in Tallinn University.

All academic documents (diploma, transcript) need to be certified by a public notary or issuing university. If the document is not in English or Estonian it also needs to be officially translated.

You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.

All required documents must be uploaded with the application by the application deadline.

Applicants who have successfully passed their entrance exam, may be asked to send their educational documents to Tallinn University by post. Specific instructions will be given by the admission specialists to each applicant individually. Please do not send any documents by post until you have personally been asked to do so.

Whether any documents are required by post can also be determined by examining Tallinn University’s country-specific requirements. which may state, for example, that the applicant’s Transcript of Records must be sent to Tallinn University by the awarding institution or that a document needs to be certified in a particular way.
