Overview

Enactive Co-presence in Narrative Virtual Reality: A Triadic Interaction Model (shortly EnCoP) is a research project that combines arts and sciences to explore how the participant’s experience of co-presence with a humanlike artificial agent can be controlled by parametrically modifying the a) behavior of the latter, or b) the context of the interaction. The research identifies with the research field of social robotics, considering humanlike virtual agents as a subfield of social robotics. The high-level aim is to deepen the insights into human – humanlike agent interaction in the socio-emotionally immersive contexts.Immersive virtual environments, including augmented and mixed reality settings, allow real-time interaction between the participant and humanlike artificial agent. However, the human experience of co-presence, a crucial aspect of immersion in such settings, is still relatively sparsely studied.
