The maximum allowed length of the motivation letter is 2500 characters (including spaces). Applicants are admitted on the basis of the ranking list. The results are rounded to the first decimal place. In the case of equal scores, applicants whose motivation letter collected more points are given preference. The mandatory admission requirements are: 1. The International Student Admission Test (ISAT) is a general aptitude test which measures critical reasoning and quantitative reasoning. It is a 3-hour test which is delivered remotely (online). Testing is available in pre-determined test cycles. Test can be taken 4 times a year, but to apply for the Veterinary Medicine programme at the Estonian University of Life Sciences for 2025/2026 intake, the test results taken latest in May 2025 (registration deadline: April 14) will be taken into account. The test can be taken only once within 12 months. If a candidate has more than one result in the ACER database, the most recent sitting (if both have been completed within 12 months) will be cancelled and the university will be notified. Overview
Veterinary Medicine curriculum is intended to enable students to acquire adequate knowledge and sufficient clinical skills and other practical experience, enabling graduates to work successfully in different areas of activity requiring veterinary education – in large and small animal veterinary practice, in government service (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Department, Veterinary and Food Board and State Agency of Medicines), in veterinary institutions of the European Union or in the international veterinary organizations (OIE, FAO), in animal disease diagnostic and food laboratories (Veterinary and Food Laboratory), in companies manufacturing and marketing veterinary medicines and in veterinary research and educational institutions in Estonia or in other countries.
In addition, the graduate can continue their education in doctoral studies or in residency training program to acquire a specialist diploma in certain field of veterinary medicine (Diplomate of European College).
Veterinary medicine curriculum provides also prerequisites for life-long education in the field of veterinary medicine for continued development of professional skills.
Programme structure
The graduate:
1) has theoretical knowledge of the sciences on which the activities of the veterinary surgeon are based;
2) knows the anatomy and physiology of animals, animal husbandry, animal reproduction and hygiene in general, as well as their feeding, including the technology for the manufacturing and preservation of feeds corresponding to animal needs;
3) knows animal behaviour and the field of animal protection;
4) knows the causes, nature, course, effects, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the diseases of animals, whether considered individually or in groups, including a special knowledge of the diseases which may be transmitted to humans;
5) knows the food hygiene and food safety requirements related to the production, manufacturing and marketing of animal foodstuffs or foodstuffs of animal origin intended for human consumption;
6) knows the laws, regulations and administrative provisions related to the field of veterinary medicine;
7) has relevant clinical and other practical experience and skills required for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of animal diseases;
8) is supporting his/her professional activities with contemporary scientific methods and high ethical principles.
